Psychoeducational Evaluations

Dr. Rebecca Elman is a Florida-licensed psychologist who specializes in psychoeducational assessment. She conducts gifted testing to identify intellectual giftedness. She also conducts comprehensive psychoeducational and neuropsychological evaluations to determine why a child may be experiencing difficulties in school and to diagnose learning disabilities, such as dyslexia, and ADHD.

Dr. Elman evaluates students and provides documentation in support of requests for testing accommodations on the SAT, ACT, AP, IB, and AICE examinations, as well as graduate and professional examinations such as the MCAT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT, and Bar Examination. Each testing organization determines whether a student qualifies for accommodations.

The Process

Scheduling the Evaluation:

Please call or email Dr. Elman to schedule your child’s evaluation and learn more about the process. Parents are encouraged to schedule evaluations in the morning, when children tend to be most alert and attentive.

Discussing the Evaluation with your Child:

Evaluations include a variety of activities that many children find enjoyable. Parents often tell Dr. Elman that their children would like to return and complete the activities again. When discussing the evaluation with your child, keep the explanation simple and avoid creating pressure, particularly for gifted testing. You might explain that they will complete activities that will help their parents and teachers better understand how they learn.

The Day of the Evaluation:

Gifted testing is completed in a single testing session, with the duration depending on the student’s age and pace. More comprehensive evaluations take place over multiple days. Dr. Elman monitors each child’s attention and energy level and does not push a child to continue if they become tired or begin to lose focus. She strives to make the testing process a comfortable and positive experience, and parents often report that their children enjoyed the evaluation.
